Stretched beyond your limits?

In the first blog post, I told you that you are special. You have the elements of the Universe embedded in you.

In the second post, I made the bold statement that our Black Holes (BH) can lead to a wondrous outcome.  I dared you to give your all. In this blog my attention is still with BH’s.

I often experience circumstances that feel like a mini BH. Sometimes I meet people and the moment I am in their company it feels as if they are sucking the oxygen or the very life out of the room. Their conversation is one long series of complaints. Since I don’t like being labelled and put into a “box,” I remind myself that I will not label or box… but I want to move on. Quickly!

This post is not about other people. It is about how we perceive ourselves. If you are an active Toastmaster (TM), you will understand what I mean. This story is not limited to TM’s.  Last year I chose to be President of a club and an Area Director. I did not know how busy I would be when I said “yes” to these tasks. Since I have the capacity to do many things, and do them well… why not? Then I added Ablaze Online TM club. Why not? Everything is going swell.  To that mix I added many other Online Clubs (both as a member and as a non-member). Now there is a massive swell drawing me towards a BH.

When I need answers, I actively look for answers in all kinds of disciplines. I found an answer in an unexpected forum. I share this knowing that many of you will be able to identify with the story above.

In Academia there is a hot debate raging about what will happen if a person falls into a BH. According to an article on the “npr,” (yes lower case it is) science website, 3 December 2013, title: “Stretch or Splat…” falling into a BH is interesting, very interesting. If it should ever happen. Ha-ha. Since I am not in space, I will apply my knowledge to the here and now.

Depending which end of you is entering the “point of no return,” the following will happen when your feet are going in first: "The gravity wants to sort of stretch you in one direction and squeeze you in another, ‘says Joe Polchinski, a physicist at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He says the technical term for this stretching is spaghettification.”

There you have it. I know now what the problem is. Although I merrily go on and do what is required, I know that there are more demands on my time.  I have done several levels in Pathways and my onsite club is looking to me for help. Suddenly I have reached the point where I wonder… what to let go of.

Giving our all is fantastic. However, giving it too many times will result in Spaghettification.  In the end it can rip you apart. That is NOT the lesson of blog two. This third post is to make sure that your beautiful essence is not getting squandered.

With this lesson in mind … especially with this graphic, I have decided to make my online presence smaller. I have learned a lot from each online club I have been involved in. I thank those clubs. I have not just been taking from them, I have given freely of my life essence in return.

Now I need to make sure that I am not getting Spaghettified. That will help no one.

What are your ideas on this matter? Do you feel strongly that Spaghettification is not good for anyone? Maybe you are willing to make spaghetti bolognaise providing there is something left of you? Please give me your take on this wonderful idea of Spaghettification. This word is now permanently in my vocabulary.

  1. Magda, I love your term Spaghettification and the way you explain it. They always say that if you want something done to ask a busy person as they will do it. The challenge is that when they keep saying yes that it can lead to complete burn out which can happen so easily and it is great that you have learnt to step back before it happens to you. You have so much to offer and we don't want to see you ripped apart. I am learning that and glad that I am so now I can be much more effective in the areas that are important to me and my family. 1. Thank you Linda. I am glad that we can all learn from each other. As a Pathways project, I am required to do 8 posts in a month. It is growing on me. Who knows? Maybe there could still be a post or two after that. Just a tiny correction ... I cannot take the credit for this wonderful new word ... spaghettification. Someone else beat me to it. Ha-ha. Just as well, I don't think I would be able to cast "over eagerness" in such a wonderful term.
